Individual Placement and Support (IPS)
Recovery and Finding Work
For some, recovery isn’t just about letting go of a substance or making better choices. It can mean a complete overhaul of a lifestyle. Services are available to make sure no one has to go through this transition alone.
The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) team helps people find jobs that suit their specific skills, interests, and experience. Many of the people we support are referred to IPS during or following their time at the County Durham Drug and Alcohol service.
Finding the right job can not only help with your recovery but with other aspects of life, such as your finances, mental and physical health.
What Does IPS Do?
When you start with IPS, you’ll be assigned an Employment Specialist, who will meet with you on a regular basis and help you with your job search. Once you have found a job that suits you, your Employment Specialist will support you through the application process and hiring process.
During employment, you and your new employer will also be supported for as long as you need.
This approach has been internationally recognised as one of the best at helping individuals secure jobs and kickstart careers.
How Can IPS Help Find A Job?
Your support worker can help you in a variety of ways, including:
- Linking you to local and national employers that can offer the right job
- Reaching out to the community to develop your career
- Strengthen your CV
- Prepare for interviews
- Disclosure advice
- Referrals to the benefits office or other services to help financially
The service is open to anyone who is supported, or has received support, from County Durham Drug and Alcohol Recovery Services.
If you or someone you know needs support securing work, contact the IPS at ipsdurham@waythrough.org.uk, or speak to your worker for more information.
