Understanding Addiction

This session introduces addiction from a holistic, evidence-informed perspective. Designed for professionals working in social care, policing, safeguarding and community services, the training explores how biological, psychological and social factors combine to influence substance use and dependency.

Participants will gain an overview of current UK trends, including the significant impact of alcohol and drug use across communities. The session challenges common myths and stigma, helping delegates develop a more informed and compassionate understanding of addiction.

The training also introduces key treatment approaches used within UK services, including harm reduction, psychosocial interventions and medication-assisted treatment. Trauma, culture and lived experienced approaches complete the session.
